2 BUSINESS PROCESSES AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS All businesses function based on objectives, goals and identities. A computer business differs from a restaurant supply company to the extent that both have different identities and goals. The identity of a business is defined based on the need that business responds to. Thus, for example, technology businesses differ among themselves to the extent that some respond to in depth software needs, other to in depth hardware needs, and others to a combination of both, but not to such depth. Once a business has its identity, objective, and functional structure, it establishes the processes necessary for it to regularly and dependably fulfill its role and meet the commitment it has made to its clients in terms of production and services. Several means of support, including the different stakeholders and, above all, the cooperation of the regular employees, are needed to uphold and run the business processes. A more recent support that has been developed – information systems, is playing an increasingly important role in the business process system, and fulfilling many tasks that were previously cumbersome jobs the workers had to do manually. Business Processes A business process can be defined as “a set of coordinated tasks and activities, conducted by both people and equipment, that will lead to accomplishing a specific organizational goal” (CIO, 2007-2010). While the actual business processes can be countless, and will vary from between businesses, the processes can in general be divided into the following three groups: 1. Management processes , the processes that govern the operation of a system. Typical management processes include " Corporate Governance " and " Strategic Management ".
