1) Connect the circuit in figure 1: Vary the positive supply voltage, and plot the output voltage as a function of the supply voltage. To the extent that the collector current is fixed, the slope of this graph should be exactly 45 degrees. Is this true? Yes. The slope of this graph is 45 degrees from Vin=4V and greater. At what supply voltage does the graph abruptly change? It is around 4.1V because the transistor is no longer in CCR. Why? The collector current is no longer fixed because of the decrease in input voltage.

2) Connect the circuit in figure 2: Observe the output voltage with a scope, and vary the current in the bottom transistor by changing the negative supply. Can you balance the output between 0V and 5V? The output voltage would jump between 0V and 5V when we tried to adjust the negative supply. We could not get the output voltage to stabilize between 0V and 5V. Apply a small input voltage at some audio frequency, and observe the output with the scope.
