THE PROCESS OF SOCIALIZATION SS101 Notes: Socialization-   process that allows us to cope with our social environment and gain  acceptance by society  o process by which people develop a sense of personal identity and learn the  ways of a particular society for example: person adapting to a wild environment  becoming socialized means that one learns which actions and behaviors will result in  social acceptance by their society cases where an individual is denied a chance to become socialized: Genie is locked up for the first 13 years of her life and does not now how to react to  society She does not know how to clean herself Nature vs. Nurture Sociobiology-   an attempt to explain human behaviors in light of biological factors  Behaviors may be connected to people’s gender, ethnicity, or physical  characteristics Self-Identity and Personality Self-identity-   a relation to the rest of society. A sense of who you are which  includes behaviors and beliefs our childhood experiences play an extraordinary role in forming our personality
