ME 463 Safety Check 3 – Prior to ANY Testing Students will convene a meeting of the safety committee (Mike Sherwood, PEARL Manager, John Starkey, PEARL Director, and your ME 463 instructor), to seek their approval to proceed with operation of the prototype/experiment. Students should be prepared to answer general safety procedure questions as well as specific questions about their test procedures. a. General safety questions Where are fire extinguishers and how do you use them? Where are the first-aid kits? What constitutes an emergency? What should you do in case of an emergency? b. Is the experiment safe? Present all potential risks Present what you have done to mitigate the risks c. How will the experiments be conducted? Start-up and shut-down procedures (design a check list if needed)? Who will conduct the experiments? Where will the experiments be conducted? After the safety review, email a memo of understanding (see template below) addressed to the safety committee (Mike Sherwood, PEARL Manager, John Starkey, PEARL Director, and your ME 463
