Hartman Office: 311 Knoy Hall Phone: 496-6104 Email: nhartman@purdue.edu Office hours by appointment only L ABORATORY I NSTRUCTOR Mr. Joe Gerace Office: 374 Knoy Hall Email: jgerace@purdue.edu W 10:30 – 11:30; F 11:30 – 12:30 C OURSE D ESCRIPTION This course provides an introduction to product data exchange and interoperability standards, ASME, ANSI and NIST product documentation recommendations, product modeling standards, methodologies for technology selection, implementation, and evaluation. This course also examines the product archival and communication processes in a PLM environment through the use of model-based definition. C OURSE O BJECTIVES The purpose of this course is to develop basic fluency in the creation and interpretation of engineering graphics documentation. Upon completion of CGT 326, the students will be able to: Explain the significance of 2D and 3D CAD model standards relative to industrial practice. Describe the elements and process of 3D model-based definition. Incorporate model-based definition techniques into the CAD model database and technical documentation when creating geometry. Develop standard parts libraries which incorporate industrial standard parts specifications. Select appropriate file format(s) for the communication of CAD data through different toolsets and data exchange media. Develop basic literacy in interpreting technical documentation. Demonstrate professional writing skills through relevant literature searches and reports.
