Computer Networks Unit 3 Discussion Board Kregg M. Soltow January 20, 2011 American Intercontinental University Please explain the concept of congestion in data networks. Data Network Congestion takes place when a link or node is transporting so much data that its QoS (quality of service) worsens. (Jacobson,1988) Usual effects are delays in queuing, loss of packets and even new connection blockage. Results of blockage and packet loss is that percentage increases in offered load direct to both, small increases in network throughput, and total decrease in network throughput. Please explain the concept of quality of service in data networks. Quality of Service is a traffic engineering term which refers to reserve proviso management mechanisms instead of the originally attained service quality. QoS involves the capability of offering diverse precedence to special data, apps, and users and to even secure a firm determined level of performance to a specific stream of data. (Kaufmann,2007) QoS guarantees are utilized when running low on network capacity,
