Use Isotopically Labeled Water Water with 18 O, and isotopes of H is heavier. It evaporates less readily from oceans, and condenses first out of clouds. Less 18 O indicates T decrease. The ratio of 18 O and 16 O acts as a thermometer. Ice Cores
