Tutorial 3 Probability 1 . (0.5p) An experiment consists of tossing a coin and a die. If 1 E is the event that "head" comes up in tossing the coin and 2 E is the event that "3 or 6" comes up in tossing the die, state in words the meaning and calculate probabilities of each of the following: (a) 1 E and ) ( 1 E P , (b) 2 E and ) ( 2 E P , (c) 2 1 E E and ) ( 2 1 E E P , (d) ) ( 2 1 E E P , (e) ) ( 2 1 E E P , (f) 2 1 E E + and ) ( 2 1 E E P + 2 . (0.5p) A ball is drawn at random from a box containing 6 red balls, 4 white balls, and 5 blue balls. Determine the probability that the ball drawn is (a) red, {b) white, (c) blue, (d) not red, and (e) red or white. 3 . (0.25p) Two cards are drawn from a well-shuffled ordinary deck of 52 cards. Find the probability that they are both aces if the first card is (a) replaced and (b) not replaced. 4 . (0.25p) Find the probability of a 4 turning up at least once in two tosses of a fair die. 5 . (0.5p) One bag contains 4 white balls and 2 black balls; another contains 3 white balls and 5 black balls. If one ball is drawn from each bag, find the probability that (a)

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
