Transformation week 2 I. Intro a. Last week we talked about transforming our mind and being focused on God b. Transforming the heart b.i. Your affections, sensibilities, will c. Proverbs 4:23 "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." c.i. Wellspring is a source d. Two kinds of hearts a person can have II. Sinful heart a.i. Distracted b. A Selfish heart b.i. We don’t have to be taught how to be selfish b.ii. James 3:16 "For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice." b.iii. This kind of heart doesn’t care what God wants for it as long as its happy b.iv. Two ways we can be selfish when it comes to God b.iv.1. That you can live for God later, and just want to do what you want to right now b.iv.2. Not sharing what Jesus has to offer c. A prideful heart c.i. Don’t confuse pride with confidence c.i.1. Pride: is a high or excessive opinion of one’s own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority c.i.2. Confidence: belief in oneself and one’s powers or abilities c.ii. When we have a prideful heart we feel as if we don’t need god or other people c.iii. Psalm 10:4 " The wicked are too proud to seek God.” c.iv. Uzziah c.iv.1. His long reign of about fifty-two years was "the most prosperous besides Jehosaphat since the time of Solomon." c.iv.2. For longest time did what was right in the sight of the lord
