Brianna Haynes ART 2313.252 Music Review #2 Voice Studio Recital by Students of Dr. Cary Michaels The Studio Recital by Dr. Cary Michaels and his students was presented in the Recital Hall of the first floor of the Music Building at 8 p.m. There were several performances within the recital but I have decided to write on one particular singer that to me was the best of all the students in the group. Nicholas Lopez, a baritone, sang “Pieta Signore!” which was composed and made famous by Alessandro Stradella in the 1600’s. I analyze this recital in terms of its deep emotion and artistic grace in which Mr. Contreras portrays. In Nicholas’ part he not only sang the song, but also told a story with his body movements that helped to act out the plot. This opera like performance took deep vocals to a whole new level. At one point I felt like his lyrics were vibrating within me. The fluctuations in his voice cued the audience into the sentiments Nicholas was representing. It is amazing that he
