All living in variety of groups (30 nations) and they all work together under the leadership of one individual II. Powhatan confederacy a. System of Indians working together. b. Indians are compliant to English needs due to the trade of weapons and horses and clothing and tools. c. Relationship built contentiously. d. Individuals on both sides quarrel consistently. e. By 1670 powhattan decides to turn leadership over to younger brother. III. Headright system a. Developed by Virginia company b. Take live colonists and grant them 50 acres of their own land. i. You are no longer an employee of vg but now a private landholder. ii. Hopes to motivate settlers to grow more crops. c. If you can afford the trip across the atlantic you will be awarded your own headright. d. Hoping this will solve the volunteer problem. e. Still they have problems due to no income or profits.
