Notes WWI What Progressive Wanted Out of WWI League of Nations in Europe to prevent future wars League of Nations is created but America does not join utter failure What Came Out of WWI Fewer immigrants Economic prosperity Complacency (satisfaction over one’s achievements) Republicans win power (hate Wilson’s interventionist policies – willingness to use American forces overseas – this was the first war to do so) US foreign policy becomes more isolationist The KKK becomes very strong but broadens their realm of hatred (1920s) o Ohio/Oregon: You must join the KKK to win a political office Immigration Act of 1924 Changes immigration in US to impose quotas on how many can get in from different countries For the first time, makes immigration illegal if no application is submitted Used the 1890 census to base how many of each nationality can get in Tries to freeze US in the past and halts immigration Economic Prosperity Complacency
