Notes FDR’s “Good Neighbor Policy” to Latin America Simply-put, it states “you don’t invade us and we won’t invade you” This was a blatant contradiction of foreign policy to other administrations in the past FDR opposes sending the army to intervene in foreign affairs American comes off to European / Asian nations as isolationist 2 nd New Deal WPA REA Social Security o Background This was the most consequential and longest lasting policy of FDR Unlike the other policies, this was not intended to be a temporary fix meant to transform American society This bill guarantees income to people too old / sick to work Offers a pension promise of money after retirement / when old Offered the idea that people were “entitled to this money” since they paid it when they were young o Overall Purpose To removes old workers from jobs in order to employ younger ones young support families Wanted to support those in society who could no longer support themselves
