Unformatted text preview: COM 447 Dr. Ronald Scott December 12, 2011 Final Critical Analysis: Criminal Minds American police drama, Criminal Minds , premiered on September 22, 2005 on CBS. The hit television show focuses around a n influential group of FBI behavioral analysis profilers who investigate the nation's most precarious criminal minds in an attempt to anticipate the criminal’s next moves before he/she strikes again. Criminal Minds is unlike any other crime drama. Fortunately, this show strays away from the crime drama norm of the clichéd, disdainful, routine law enforcement themed shows prevalent on cable television. The show encompasses exceptional acting and well written scripts thereby breaking the mold of prior shows with similar genres. T his quality program focuses on the intelligence and wit that is necessary in order to solve the crime. Criminal Minds differentiates itself by involving psychology and sociology as a means to discover the motivation of the criminal rather than on the gathering and collecting of forensic evidence to solve the crime. Criminal Minds never ceases to challenge viewers’ minds. Accompanied by a phenomenal story lines and never short of action, this series will be difficult to surpass and remains important and worthy of critical analysis. Criminal Minds is produced by the The Mark Gordon Company in association with CBS Television Studios and ABC Studios. Created by Jeff Davis, the thriller has been renewed by CBS for a seventh season which premiered on September 21, 2011. Also scheduled to come out in late 2011 is a video game based on the show in association with Legacy Interactive. Like the show, the video game will require players to examine crime scenes searching for evidence to help solve the murder mystery. As of December 7, 2011, 147 episodes of Criminal Minds have been aired over seven seasons. The 148 th episode will be aired on December 14, 2011 and is titled, “The Bittersweet Science.” In hopes to have a successful spin off like CBS found with shows like CSI , Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior aired on February 16, 2011 but the network unfortunately cancelled the show after the thirteenth episode. Even though the show starred Oscar winner, Forest Whittaker, it quickly lost viewers. According to many critics, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior ultimately failed due to the fact that there was no character attachment, which is a proven key element in the success of Criminal Minds . Throughout the seven seasons of the show, Criminal Minds has been run by various production companies.
