ACG 2071; Introduction to Managerial Accounting Syllabus; Spring 2012 Instructor: Deborah Garvin: J.D.; CPA; Master Lecturer, Fisher School of Accounting Live Class: Tuesday and Thursday, Periods 3 & 4 (9:35 – 11:15 a.m.) in Stuzin 104 Garvin Office: 311 Gerson Hall; Phone – 352-273-0213 Garvin Office Hours: Tuesday & Thursday: 1:30 – 3:00; in my office - 311 Gerson Hall Email: [email protected] Elearning Website: http://lss.at.ufl.edu Objectives : This is an introductory course that stresses accounting concepts and procedures that relate to generating and using accounting information for planning and control of business operations. The goal of managerial accounting is to provide the information business managers need for planning, control, and decision making. Prerequisite: Successful completion of ACG 2021C or its equivalent. Text: Braun, Tietz & Harrison, Managerial Accounting , 2 nd edition, Pearson Education, Inc., publishing as Prentice Hall, 2010. (See Below about MyAccountingLab before purchasing book) Additional Requirements : My Accounting Lab (MAL): A web-based tutorial and assessment accounting software system that supplements our textbook. **The text and MyAccountingLab can be purchased as a package from the bookstore. Please note, when purchased as a package the access code to MyAccountingLab only costs $5. If purchased individually (i.e. if you buy a used book) the access code to MyAccountingLab costs $50 (or $100 with an e-book. With access to MyAccountingLab with an e-book, you will have access to an electronic version of the book. If you do not want a hardcopy of the book you may purchase only the access code without an e- book to MyAccountingLab**** Office Hours My office hours are listed at the top of this Syllabus. We also have two student assistants that will hold regular office hours and also virtual office hours. Access the class website for a list of the office hours held by each student assistant and for instructions for accessing virtual office hours. Virtual office hours allow you to receive help from one of the student assistants remotely. Student assistant actual office hours are always held in Gerson 125. Student Assistant Emails For questions regarding MyAccountingLab (including any questions related to quizzes) you should contact [email protected] For other course questions, contact [email protected] Recommendations for Success in this Course: 1. Read the assigned chapter before we discuss it. 2. Attend the live class or watch the lecture (Do not let yourself get behind if you are watching lectures online) 3. After we finish discussing a Chapter, complete the assigned homework problems 4. If you have issues with any of the homework problems, attend one of the student assistant’s office hours 5. Complete the assigned quiz in a timely manner Lectures: You are expected to attend or watch all lectures according to the schedule outlined below.
