Manshi Naik – mnaik (submitter) Gerald Hardesty - ghardes My diversity partner and I chose each other as diversity partners because we are so culturally different. Gerald is a Caucasian, Catholic male, while Manshi is an Indian, Hindu female. We quickly realized that we had very few things in common and it would be difficult to find something that would stretch both of our boundaries. My diversity partner and I attended the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) question and answer seminar at Owen Hall. We selected this event because we saw it as an opportunity to stretch us both. We are both from conservative backgrounds and before coming to Purdue, neither of us were exposed to homosexuals. We learned that we are both uncomfortable in even the discussion of homosexuality but for slightly different reasons. Gerald was raised in a Catholic household and in the eyes of the Catholic Church, homosexuality is viewed as morally wrong. Manshi is also from a moderately conservative Hindu family, but the primary reason as to why she is uncomfortable about this topic is her general principles about morality and what is right and
