1 I. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The purpose of this report is to examine historical district of Union Township located in the county of Union in Union, New Jersey. Specifically speaking, the area of Connecticut Farms will be the case study area. This area is rich in the town’s history and is a crucial historical element to not only the township but also the nation. The church is still in use today and serves as an afterschool program location for the local children. The functionality and fund acquisition of the church is also discussed in the report. In addition, new methods of preservation will be discussed such as the use of solar panel shingles in the redevelopment of the church funded by grant applications from the local township government. This report stresses the need for historic sites to align with the sustainability efforts of the state of New Jersey in order to ensure survival and preservation of timeless sites. 3 II. OVERVIEW The case study area that will be analyzed in this synopsis will be the historical district of Union Township located in the county of Union in Union, New Jersey. In the beginning of the 15 th and into the 17 th Century the Dutch and English were interested in the Union area. The allure for this area is still present in this day and age as Union was voted the 75 th best place to live in the United States. The neighborhood of Union consists of very diverse cultural and historical monuments to people of all races. Union According to the 2000 Census results, Union Township is home to about 54,405 people and is in one of the most densely populated counties in New Jersey. Union is rich in history and the community is vibrant and reflective of all races. In addition. It’s historical richness and cultural complexity is what allures it visitors to
