Midsummer Night’s Dream Setting: - After feast of St. John - When young girls frind their true love - Fairy’s run amuck - Set in Athens, we meet Hippolyta and Theseus, for the occasion of their wedding. Scene 1 - Theseus is excited for the wedding, can’t wait - We meet Lysander and Hermia, Helena and Demetrius - Lysander and Hermia want to marry - Demetrius wants to marry Hermia - Helena is in love with Demetrius - Egeus wants his daughter Hermia to marry Demetrius - See what Theseus offers in 1.1.65 Next Event - Lysander and Hermia meet secretly and Lysander wants them to get married secretly. - Hatch a plan to elope - Helena finds out and says in 1.1.225-150 (soliloquy-a character is alone on stage speaking their thoughts aloud – we take it as the truth as they wouldn’t lie to themselves.) - She is unhappy, saying how much she loves Demetrius and that it sucks he doesn’t return he love, hatches a plan to stop Demetrius and Hermia’s marriage by telling him about Hermia and Lysander. Scene 2 Act 1
