Dr. Mack: Spring 2010 Exam 1: The Obesity Problem in America Due: Monday 2/22 We have been told that we have an obesity “epidemic” in America. Obesity-related deaths have climbed to more than 300,000 a year, second only to tobacco-related deaths. On this exam, you will examine data from the CDC’s National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The most recent data are from 2006 and are drawn from a national random sample of children and adults. Descriptive Statistics: Design a single, well-organized table of descriptive statistics for the following variables for this sample: age, sex and ethnicity, and weight (convert to pounds). Since this exam looks at adults and children separately, provide separate statistics for each group. For quantitative variables, provide n and an appropriate measure of center and spread. For categorical variables, provide n and the % in each category.
