Technology Education Lesson Plan Foundations Teacher: Joshua R. Speer Time Required: 50 minutes Behavioral Objectives : Upon completion of this lesson, the learner will: Describe what a “foundation” is. Identify the purposes of “foundation” in construction. Name and describe the key terms related to “foundation.” Set/Motivation : Take a box and stand on it. Introduction : Everything we build must have something to support it. This box did not support me why? How does this relate to construction? Foundations support our structures and they do it in several different ways. Today we will learn about these methods. At then end of the class we will reevaluate why this box did not hold my weight. Presentation of New Material: Foundation Substructure designed to support the load of a building Foundation Parts Load Bearing surface Determination of load bearing surfaces Soil or bedrock Soil Tests Footing Natural of artificial forms Foundation Walls Identification of foundation wall material (concrete, brick, block, or stone)
