Lab 01: Intro to Scratch CNIT 15500 Fall 2011 Prof. Harriger Due: Tuesday, 9/6/11, 10 pm 10 Points Description Today you are going to use Scratch, a programming tool developed by MIT media labs to create animated projects. As an introduction to Scratch, you will follow along with your instructor individually to create a simple animation of someone (maybe you) dancing in your neighborhood. You can add sounds and images to personalize your neighborhood animation, but if you run out of time during lab, the provided instructions will allow you to repeat the activity later on your own. After you complete this individual activity, you will demonstrate what you learned by creating an animated commercial for an assigned theme. In-Lab Activity 1. Download the pictures for lab 01 from the CNIT15500 course website. 2. Before we begin your first project, you should familiarize yourself with the different areas of the Scratch developer program (see figure below). 3. Create a customized people sprite (we’ll be using the anjuli images, but feel free to experiment with another character with multiple versions of images). You can remove the cat sprite or ignore it. a. Click the Paint new sprite button b. This brings up the Paint Editor . We will import an existing image in Scratch as well as your own person image and paste your person’s head on the Scratch person. © 2011, Alka Harriger Page 1 SOURCE of image: Lydia Yates, Spring 2011, CNIT 581HRI
