(Re-conquest 732 – 1492) There was a coincidence between the legends of the Aztecs and the landing of the Spanish The important things is by 1521 that is the end of the conquest The colonial period begins 1521 – 1821 (independence) (This is a long period of colonialism) The colonial period lays the foundation for social values and economic structure Corporative Soc. Structure – there is no common historical experience, extremely competitive, and fragments easily. Dependant Econ. Structure A lot of the people who come to conquer Mexico had the idea of getting the land they conquered. Decentralized economic and political system Columbus sailed for the queen of Castile and the king of Aragon. When they were married it became Spain. Aragon was the commercial part of Spain – the aragonians were in the commercial business The Castilians were in the business of agriculture and war – in the central part of Spain – the Castilians were the only ones who could own land in Mexico
