Capacity of a Medium • Measured in “cycles per second” or Hertz (Hz) – Each cycle can be used to send data – The more cycles per sec, the greater the capacity – Think about turning on and off a hose an be divided into multiple channels or bands • Can be divided into multiple channels or bands – Given the overall capacity of the channel and the “width” of each band, you get “bandwidth” • “Bandwidth”: frequency at which at least half the power of the original signal gets through to the receiver
