STUDY TIPS FOR MID-TERM #2 1. Make sure you know all the homework questions for the last two homework sets. 2. Go to the end of each Chapter and study the Summaries. Mid-Term 2 covers Chapters 7, 8, 9 10, 11 and 12. Know the definitions and key points of each chapter. 3. Use my Lectures Notes. Note the Goals for Learning and What Have We Learned. These items are telling you WHAT THE MOST IMPORTANT points are. 4. Review the Terrestrial and Jovian Planets. Know your planets! Key facts about Mars, Venus and Earth. Know the most important moons (of Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune). Tidal stress causes Io to be very volcanic. Know the difference between Comets and Asteroids; meteors and meteorites. How does a comet get its tail? Pluto is a member of a family of icy (comet-like) worlds in the Kuiper Belt beyond Neptune. Know about Impacts of comets and asteroids on Earth; last major impact was 65 million years ago (dinosaurs wiped out). 5. Make sure you understand the Hertsprung-Russell (also called the H-R) diagram.
