UGS 303, Self and Soul Mid-term examination review questions February 16, 2011 The exam will be held in class on March 3. Please bring a blue book. You will have 75 minutes, but you should need only about 40 of them. You will have two kinds of questions to answer. Part A. Short answer Choose three of the following five quotations. For each passage, (1) identify the speaker and source. (2) Explain the meaning of the passage in context. (3) Toward what conclusion is the author leading you with this passage? You need not write out the quotation in your answer, just mark it as A1 or A3. Points: 15 points each, five for each element. Credit will be given for intelligent wrong answers. See the exemplary quiz for an example. Part B. Essay Choose one of the two questions that will appear on the exam. Write a brief essay in which you state your answer clearly and support it with reasons. An adequate answer would take up two to five pages in a blue book. Mark your essay as B1 or B2.
