AFORA is a plan to construct a city under the canals of amsterdam. This project is predicted to start in 2018 and expected to be finished in 10 years. The project costs are estimated to be around 14.4 billion US dollars. The primary objective of this project is to reduce the congestion of the streets by providing parking in the proposed underground city. After construction is done it is estimated that 3000 parking spots will be eliminated. Amsterdam has had a huge problem with traffic congestion and parking in the recent years. By moving the traffic and parked cars underground it will force the existing city to operate much more smoothly. The engineers on the project say this plan will

Another objective is to create underground leisure and community buildings for the public to take advantage of. Some of the proposed buildings like cinemas, sports complexes and shopping areas will attract large amounts of people from the surface. This project will allow the existing city above the ground to improve because a lot of the pedestrian traffic will now be occurring in the underground city.
