UNIT ONE REVIEW Chapter One: History of Psychology and Research Methods 1. Know the following “pioneers” and what area of psychology that they founded: a. Watson and Skinner; Rogers and Maslow; Freud; Wundt 2. Know the contemporary fields in psychology and be able to identify which theoretical perspective I am using when I give an explanation for a person’s behavior. (cognitive, biological, learning, psychodynamic, humanistic perspectives). 3. Research methods: be able to identify which research method I am describing: Surveys, case-study, correlation and experiment. 4. Know how to interpret a correlation coefficient. 5. Be able to identify experimental and control groups, independent variables and dependent variables in an experiment. Be able to identify flawed experiments due to placebo effects or subject and experimenter bias (from not using random assignment or the double blind procedure.) 6. Know what critical thinking and empiricism are. 7. Know how to identify hypotheses and theories. Chapter Two: The biological bases of behavior.
