The first issue of Life Magazine was published in 1936. The Hindenburg disaster killed 35 people in 1937. The Golden Gate bridge construction was completed in 1939. The most relevant thing to happen before the release of this movie was Orson Welles broadcast of “War of the Worlds” on October 30 th , 1938. FDR appeared at the 1939 New York World’s Fair to deliver the first ever broadcasted speech that was televised. 1939 also marked the beginning of World War II. The early 1940’s marked the end of the great depression.
