(b) Using steel and brass, what are their lengths whose total length is 52.4cm and whose coefficient of linear expansion is 13.0 x 10 -6 / o C? [15 marks] [ Coeffcient of linear expansion of steel and brass are 12 x 10 -6 / o C and 18.5 x 10 -6 / o C respectively.] 2. A house has well-insulated walls 17.5 cm thick (assume conductivity of air) and area 410m 2 a roof of wood 6.5 cm thick and area 280 m 2 and uncovered windows 0.65 cm thick and total area 33 m 2 . (a) Assuming that heat is lost only by conduction, calculate the rate at which heat must be supplied to this house to maintain its inside temperature at 23°C if the outside temperature is -10°C
