Steven Miner 1/6/11 Engl 101 Section 003 Sheryl Simons A Small Town with a Big History As you ride down Atco Avenue, the main street of the town Atco, New Jersey, that I call home there’s one specific house that stands out from all of the others. Right on top of the hill, which the avenue passes through, sits the Atco Mansion, an old victorian home massive in size with pillars all around it. This estate lives up to the name the Atco Mansion, which is one of the most recognizable names and landmarks to all of inhabitants of Atco along with the inhabitants of close neighboring towns. Though many people know it for its appearance, not quite everyone knows the history behind the estate and how it relates to multiple things within the town. The house was built and owned by a man named Thomas Richards Jr, son of the man who founded the Jackson Glass works company, which was located in what is now known as the Louden section of Atco. In 1866, Thomas Richards and his brother Samuel founded the town of Atco well after the creation of their father’s company. The family
