Discussion and Conclusions The cooling curves chart represents both the Cyclohexanol solution alone and then the other curve shows the Cyclohexanol with an unknown solute added to it. It is difficult to determine what the exact freezing point by looking for a plateau in the curve so you can also look for a trend in the data tables. For the Cyclohexanol it was determined that the freezing point is 26.75 0 C due to the plateau being four different values between 27.9 0 C and 26.4 0 C the average was taken and the freezing point was found to be 26.75 0 C. Now the Freezing point of the Cyclohexanol with the solute was also difficult to determine but it was determined that the Freezing point for the solute could be one of two temperatures, either 20.1 0 C or 19.2 0 C so the T f for the data could either be 6.65 0 C or 7.55 0 C. Now once all of the data was used in an attempt to find the molar mass of the solute and determine the identity of the unknown solute it was found that neither of the molar masses matched the ones that were given. This is due to a fault in the data, in some way the data was not accurate which ended up giving a molar mass that was way off from the givens. So although the purpose of this lab was to determine the unknown solutes identity this will be impossible due to inaccurate data collected. Along with learning how to determine a substances identity using the colligative property of freezing point, it was also learned that you absolutely need to have accurate data to enable yourself to find the exact identity of a solute....
