The Indigenous People and Muslim Filipinos in the Philippines The coming of Islam in the Philippines changed the conditions of the natives of Midanao, Sulu, Palawan and even part of Luzon. However, the political, economic and and social situation/condition of the areas concerned was badly affected by the coming of the colonizers, the Spaniards and the Americans. It cannot be denied that the Moro Wars, led by the Sultanates of Mindanao and Sulu during the Spanish regime, had directly or indirectly forged the self determination of the Muslim against the repression and policies set forth by the colonizers and even to the extent of Philippine government of today. Yet the Moros of the Philippines is not recognized in the Philippine history, the Moros were branded as pirates, juramentados, blood- thirsty people, slave traders, backwards, and to the extent that we put aspersion they are not trustworthy, among others. Accordingly, Philippine has not been totally free to undertake reforms. Mindanao
