Key attributes of the Tulgan pay-for-performance philosophy: Equity/ Fairness Market (External Environment) Living wage Each employee should be in control of how much they make (At least most of it) Employees should be compensated when they deliver results (The closer to the desired performance the better) The form of compensation should be whatever rewards they value the most (financial and non-financial), and within the manager’s discretion and budget. The advantages, disadvantages, and decisions to be made in regards to a market based pay structure. Advantages: o Ensures competitive pay when recruiting o Ensures internal equity o Relatively easy to administer Disadvantages o Difficult to maintain internal equity across borders in global organizations Decisions: What percentile will we target?
