Kayla Butler 203-706-009 Sociology 116/Section 1A November 7, 2011 Assignment 5 For my end of the year project, I would like to look at the correlations between race, education, and income. Therefore, I would like to see how the inequality in education between races leads to inequalities in income between races. Income, in tern, leads to more inequalities between races. To show these correlations, I would choose the variables of race, educational attainment, income, and poverty status. Table 1 will aim to show how educational attainment (educ) has changed from 1960 to present, by race. The races will include blacks (200), Mexicans (140), and a recoded variable for Asian (400-653). I would like to exclude the white population in order to focus on minorities rather than the population as a whole. Also, these minorities are seen to be disadvantaged from the start, therefore it would be more interesting to see how these variables change within minority groups. For this, I plan to use the decennial census and show the races in the columns
