WNDI 2008 3 Elections Resolution Topic Analysis The 2008 presidential election promises to be an interesting campaign because both parties have nominated men that are billed as anti-politicians, mavericks and constantly heading towards the center. Despite the similarities of their campaign personas, however, these men have very different policies that they would push for if they were to be elected president. This impending election and choice facing Americans makes this resolution uniquely beneficial and educational. It reads that John McCain would be a better President than Barak Obama . Obviously ‘better’ is difficult concept to nail down when discussing the office of President of the United States. On what scale should such a measure be made. This file breaks its down into three considerations. The first is that of ‘experience’. Throughout the democratic primaries and heading into the general election the question of ‘experience’ has been used as a campaign virtue on both sides. Both Clinton and McCain touted their experience as a reason to prefer them over the political freshmen Barak Obama. It appears that on this issue McCain has the upper hand because he has served for nearly three times as long as Obama in the Senate, spent much political time out of the United States, has allies in the beltway, headed the Armed Service Committee in the Congress and is twenty one years older than Barak. However, there a number of arguments that a con debater and Barak Obama himself could make in response to the attack of being inexperienced politically. The first of which is to, as Obama did when competing with Clinton, make the argument that the ‘experience’ that these politicians have had is only bad experience that has created the same politics again and again.
