2 In modern America there remains a constant debate over conservation and preservation. To conserve something is to protect an area while making use of the resources available at the same time. However, to preserve something is to leave the area complete untouched. An area of Bridger-Teton National Forest, also known as Management Area 71 is a possible target for gas and oil leasing. The energy companies are confident they will be able to make use of the possible resources while conserving the beauty of the land and the habitat of the animals that live on it. I have every confidence that the companies will diligently attempt to conserve the area if allowed to drill and gas. However, I am equally confident that if conservation costs exceed a predetermined budget; there will be corners cut and parts of Bridger-Teton National Forest will

Unformatted text preview: cease to exist. I have never shared the love of nature so many of my relatives have, and I am certain the ecosystem is necessary for human survival. However, I am from the mountains of Tennessee, and while watching the video I was reminded of my younger childhood when I was forced to spend every moment of every day outside. Seeing the fields and horses caused me to feel like that little girl again. I now live in a city, and anytime I vacation it is often to another large city. I have no desire to visit the countryside, and often convince family members to come here. I believe America should allow the energy companies the chance to drill for oil and gas. I understand that Bridger-Teton National Forest is the largest intact ecosystem, but it is not the only one. The risk we take on losing some land is worth the freedom of dependency from foreign countries for our energy needs....
