Mark Moeller 10-28-08 Period 3 Lab Analysis Questions 1. When heated, oxygen will be converted into a gas and will escape from water. Therefore if water is colder, less of the oxygen will evaporate and thus the colder water will contain more oxygen. 2. At night or in the early morning, the water will be the coldest, and thus the water would hold more DO, because when the water is colder, less oxygen will be evaporated and escape. 3. In terms of environmental problems, eutrophication can increase the overall cloudiness of the water, which would decrease the light that is able to reach underwater plants. An aesthetic problem would be the increase of algal blooms and surface scum, which are unsightly and have unpleasant odors. An economic issue would be excessive blooms clogging water filters and thus increasing maintenance costs. 4. The turbidity of surface water would be higher in the summer because the water would be warmer and hold less DO. A lack of DO would result in more sunlight entering the water and reaching underwater plants, which in turn would create
