Mark Moeller 11/30/06 Period 4 Book 2 Chapters 1-7 questions 1. Why did Merlyn not answer Arthur when he explained his theories of how to win the war ? Throughout every portion of the book, Merlyn is trying to give Arthur more independence. I think it was a bit odd however that even after repeatedly being asked, Merlyn continued to ignore Arthur. The only reason that I could think of to explain this would be that Merlyn wants Arthur to make decisions on his own and not change them based on the reaction he gets from others. Merlyn might have believed that if he showed any indication of whether or not he agrees or disagrees with Arthur, then it will make him contradict himself and be swayed just from the pressure of others. 2. Explain what was going through Arthur’s head when he held the rock on the tower. This is probably the first time that Arthur realizes what he is able to do with his power. He knows that he can drop the rock and even kill someone but still wont get in trouble.
