New York: Metropolitan Books, 2001, pp. 22-42. Kay L. Stewart, Marian E. Allen and Shelley Galliah. Forms of Writing 5 th Edition Toronto: Prentice Hall, 2009 Chapter 4, pp. 37-42; Chapter 9, pp. 90-96; Chapter 10, pp. 101-102 Commentary: This lesson will acquaint you with three basic types of writing: the personal essay; the business memo; and the process analysis. You should do all the readings in order to gain a good understanding of each type. The assignment is designed to test your understanding and knowledge of the personal essay, the memo or process analysis. Which option you choose is entirely up to you. 1. The writing process The trick of good writing is knowing what you want to say. To this end, careful preparation is required. Buckley’s discussion of the writing process details the steps you should take in order to write well. For many people, students and professional writers alike, getting under way can be the most difficult part of the process. Buckley outlines some methods that can help you with this. None of them is more correct than the others; choose the one you find most congenial.
