Title ART-C101-003 - Section # 83747 Andrew Brown Student # C02234882 11/28/2011 artists. The first work of art I choose to write about was created by Michelangelo. Michelangelo began to create the marble statue of Biblical King David in 1501 and later finished in 1504 (Stokstad, Cothren p. 344, ch. 13 ). The second piece of art I choose to write about is the bronze version of Donatello’s two different David sculptures. According to our class textbook, “the exact date that Donatello made the statue is unknown, but it was first recorded on 1469 in the courtyard of the Medici Palace in Florence” (Stokstad, Cothren p. 321, ch. 12). These two pieces of art may seem similar to the untrained eye but they differ in the material and tools used, style depicted, and century in which they were constructed. The two statues of David are very well known pieces of art but what is lesser known is that Donatello actually sculpted another version of David using marble material (The Bargello, Florence Italy). This fact is interesting to me considering that the famous sculpture of David by Michelangelo features marble material.
