What research methods could have been used to avoid the problems? Advertising and promotion can serve many purposes in serving different products. Marketing efforts fail when organizations develop their product or service first. Then they try to convince its customers to buy it. Coca-Cola decided to change its formula and was being beat by their main competitor, Pepsi. Pepsi was running highly effective taste test advertisements showing their brand being favored over Coke it’s customer to buy it. One of the greatest marketing flops of all time was when the Coca-Cola Company decided to change it’s formula in 1985 and introduced it as “New Coke.” It was a disaster.
