Appendix B PSY/210 Version 4 1 Associate Level Material-Shannon Greenwood Appendix B Complete the following chart. The first column shows the name of a research method used in psychology. In the second column, write a brief description of that research method. In the third column, provide a situation when this method could be applied. Research Method Description Application Scientific method The scientific method is used to test ideas. It can also be used to expand knowledge through observation and experimentation. First there must be a hypothesis formed. Second, test the hypothesis using experiments and observation. Finally, form a conclusion based on your results that either proves your hypothesis to be true or false. An example of this type of method would be is someone wanted to see what type of weather made children happier in general. So the hypothesis would be that children are happier when the weather is warmer rather than cooler. First you would have to find a way to measure happiness, for example you can observe how many smiles from each child per hour in a group of 20 children. The experiment would be to take a group of 20 children and let them play outside in warm weather, count their smiles. Take the same amount of children and let them play outside in cool weather, count their smiles. Gather your data from each experiment and compare the information. From that you can form a conclusion based on the results to see
