Unformatted text preview: Running head: CODE OF ETHICS 1 Code of Ethics Shannon Greenwood BUS 210 December 2, 2011 Eva Cruz Morel CODE OF ETHICS 2 Code of Ethics I believe that a business’s code of ethics depends on the nature of this business so for purposes of this assignment I am going to imagine that I am opening a small hardware store. 1. Conflicts of Interest. A conflict of interest occurs when a person’s private interest interferes in any way with the business’s interests. Associates would not be allowed to work for direct competitors. Conflicts of interest also arise when employees (or a member or his or her family) receives improper personal benefits, such as a kickback in cash or services, as a result of his or her position with the company. Employees are prohibited from checking out family members and friends to avoid this from happening. **I selected this because I think it is important. People are very quick to do things for people they are close with that they normally would not do for strangers. For example if an employee is checking out their sister they are more likely to “miss” strangers....
