CHECKPOINT A NEW HOUSE-READINESS 2 CheckPoint A New House-Readiness I am currently renting a studio apartment with my fiancé. It has worked out fine for just the two of us for several years, but I just discovered that we are expecting our child so it is now time for some changes. Our present apartment is small and far away from schools and local services. We have decided that we need to move before the baby is born, however purchasing a home is a huge decision that requires a large financial commitment and the wrong decision could possibly have long-term consequences. Below are some of the things we considered when going through our decision making process about whether or not to purchase a new home instead of continuing to rent. First, we looked at facing trade offs. This is the concept that in order to get something we like, we may have to give up another thing we like. Obviously, we would be giving up the studio that we have called home for so long in order to purchase a larger home to raise a family. We
