LOCALISATION INTERNATIONALISATION LOCALISATION -For LISA (Localisation Industry Standards Association) : ‘Localisation involves taking a product and making it linguistically and culturally appropriate to the target local (country/region and language) where it will be used and sold’. INTERNATIONALISATION -Internationalisation is the production of a text (product) with a minimum of cultural referents, metaphors, set phrases, etc., and often a simple structure, to facilitate its comprehension and localisation – the product is built to support global markets. E.g. Original text (before internationalisation): Gain access to blade. After removing old blade, new blade nay be fitted by proceeding in reverse order, using gloves to avoid injuries by teeth of blade. Before you attempt any of the above, the power should have been switched off. Text written in Simplified Technical English (after): Make sure that the on/off switch is in the ‘off’ position Remove the blade cover from the machine Warning: wear gloves when you touch the blade. Remove the used blade. Install the new blade. See figure A. Install the blade
