KEY CONCEPTS SEGMENTATION A TM consists of a ST and a TT which have been broken down into segments (sentences, in most cases) and aligned. MATCHING A TM recalls the previous segment (if it has been translated before and is stored in the ‘memory’). Matching is where the TM system compares the content of the current ST segment against segments in the TM (i.e. identical matching or similar matching) °°°° PERFECT or EXACT MATCH: The translation unit found in the database corresponds exactly to the new source text element (100% match) °°°° FULL MATCH: The translation unit found in the database is identical to a stored translation unit, WITH THE EXCEPTION of variable elements such as dates, numbers, time or measurements. °°°° FUZZY MATCH : All other matches that do not match an existing segment exactly, but range WITHIN a user-defined minimum match value (matching threshold).
