Monday, February 13, 2012 Plate Tectonics and Types of Plate Boundaries Lecture Objectives Be able to describe how the distribution of EQs is related to the map of the  tectonic plate boundaries. Be able to fully describe the 3 types of plate boundaries, in terms of identifying  process involves and the features associated with each types of boundary. Be able to identify and differentiate between ride-push and slab-pull forces. Be able to explain where and the processes that are involves in the Creation of new crust Destruction of the crust Be able to explain how tectonic boundaries evolve through time Be able to differentiate between active and passive continental margins.  I. Defining Plate Tectonics o Plate tectonics theory is powerful – single unifying theory of geology Igenous, sedimentary, metamorphic rock The distribution of earthquakes and volcanoes The origin of continents and ocean basins
