Analog to Digital Conversion
(a)
An analog to digital converter (ADC) converts voltages in the range ± 5 volts (nominal
input range) to 12 bit positive integer codes.
(i)
Calculate the resolution of the ADC.
(ii)
Calculate the maximum quantization error.
(iii)
What is the range of voltages that will get coded as (1110 1101 1100)

(iv)
What are the integer codes (in base 10) for incoming voltages of 3, 4, 0, and 
5 volts?
(b)
A 4 bit analog to digital converter has a true input range of 6 to 5.25 volts.
(i)
What is the quantization interval?
(ii)
What is the maximum quantization error?
(iii)
What codes (in base 10) would result if the incoming voltage to the ADC were
5.125 and 3.7 volts.
(iv)
Convert the codes you obtained in part (iii) back to voltages, and calculate the
error caused by quantization.
