Anthropology 100 Lecture Outline Historical and Contemporary Archaeology  1. Historical Archaeology - Archaeology is not simply the study of societies from long ago; in many cases, archaeological research can tell us about societies much closer to our own experience - Archaeology that deals with times and places for which we have historical records is known as historical archaeology ; it can often tell us things about societies which written records leave out - One place where archaeology has great relevance to contemporary life is the field of Cultural Resource Management (CRM) , which works to preserve and document archaeological sites that may be affected by contemporary human activity - Building a new road or factory, for example, often requires an initial survey to make certain that archaeological sites will not be destroyed in the process 2. Archaeology of the present - Archaeology can also tell us a lot about how we live today - The reason why is exemplified by a the time a journalist went through Bob
