Sociology 357 B Dr. Janardan Subedi Second Response Paper February 7, 2012 After reading these four articles in our text, I realized how crucial relationships are. Chapter 7 really opened my eyes. Learning about Durkheim’s suicide research also made me more aware of how important it is to have relationships with people. The fact that socially isolated or less socially integrated individuals are more likely to be less healthy is fascinating, but I can see why. I have learned in Sociological Theory that our society is based off of humans. Humans are the ones who control this world. Everything in our world is made from nature in order for humans to survive; and the more integrated a person, the higher chance one has to survive as well. If an individual does not have any relationships, this person will be socially isolated and will not feel loved. This lack of confidence will lead to one believing that he or she does not have any value.
